The 3 Biggest Mistakes Your Church Makes On Sunday Morning

The 3 Biggest Mistakes Churches Make on Sunday Morning (And How to Fix Them)

If you're passionate about creating a smoother, more engaging Sunday morning experience, this one’s for you. Whether you’re a worship leader, tech volunteer, pastor, or just someone who cares about how your church feels on Sunday—here are three common mistakes I see all the time… and some simple ways to fix them.

1. Slide Changes Are Too Slow

You don’t want people reading the words—they should be singing them. That means your slides need to change before the congregation gets to the end of a phrase. A good rule of thumb: change slides two or three words early. It might feel strange at first, but it makes the flow of worship much smoother and more confident for everyone.

2. Nobody’s Looking Up

Worship leaders and musicians, here’s a simple but powerful fix: look up and smile. Eye contact and warmth from the stage build trust and help people feel connected. When you look up—even briefly—you invite your church into something more personal and meaningful.

3. Muddy Vocals Are Killing the Mix

AV teams, this one’s for you. If the vocals feel muddy or buried, don’t be afraid to make a deep and wide cut at 500Hz on the vocal channel. That area tends to pile up quickly and create a thick, indistinct sound. Also, those high-pass filters are your friend—use them to clean up rumble and keep the mix clear.

🎤 Bonus Tip for Worship Leaders, Pastors, and MCs:

You don’t need to say everything. In fact, sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is say less. Let the songs, the Scriptures, and the moment speak for themselves. The silence between words often carries the most weight.

Making these small changes can go a long way in helping your Sunday mornings feel more intentional, peaceful, and connected. Watch the video above for examples and more insights!
