Growing up, I loved playing Mozart right along with Tool and bopping to Blink 182.
While I was trying to write complicated and impressive songs, I realized, over and over again, that my favorite music (Tool’s “Lateralus” and Blink 182) wrote simply, basing entire songs around simple, short motifs.
In this video, I explore how you can use a simple repeating phrase over your bass note/chord changes to actually improve the spiciness levels of your playing. Not only is is “easier” on you as the musician, but it ends up giving you a more interesting and etherial, modern sound.
If this stuff is helpful to you, please grab a copy of The Simple Hymnal from this website. Every little bit helps! Thanks y’all.
